Red, White and Tahoe's Blue

Visitors from around the world travel to the U.S. to marvel at its natural wonders. Iconic locations like Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and our beloved Lake Tahoe top the must-see lists. But unlike the others, Tahoe is not a national park, even though it sees four times Yellowstone's annual visitation (15 million total by conservative estimates).

While Tahoe is more visited than any national park, it doesn’t have the legions of park rangers, entry gates, strict controls, and consistent funding to protect its endowment of natural treasures. So, it’s up to all of us – locals, visitors, businesses, agencies, and organizations – to Keep Tahoe Blue.

Since 2013, the League to Save Lake Tahoe has hosted the “Keep Tahoe Red, White and Blue” July 5 Beach Cleanup at locations around the Lake. The annual event is an opportunity for visitors and residents to protect the lake they love by removing the mess leftover from holiday festivities. Their efforts make a difference – thousands of volunteers have kept nearly 9,000 pounds of litter from polluting the Lake’s beautiful, blue waters.
